The curriculum at Warwick East State School has a central focus for high levels of literacy and numeracy and building student responsibility for active engagement in learning. The Australian Curriculum provides the basis for the curriculum in all learning areas.
The distinctive features within this design are:
- Learning experiences that are relevant, inclusive, flexible, intellectually challenging and innovative;
- Focusing on a problem-based curriculum where students investigate to identify, explore and solve real life issues in their local area;
- Empowering students to become active lifelong learners;
- Digital literacies that are integral to the learning process;
- An explicitly taught values education approach to managing student behaviour;
- Curriculum, Assessment and reporting that are aligned, where the criteria and standards for assessment are shared with the students; and
- Educational adjustments are made for students with disabilities and specific learning needs throughout all classes.
In addition, to this core curriculum, students have access to a wide range of extra-curricula activities including:
- an instrumental music program which boasts a strings band and concert band;
- a School Choir which performs at local events;
- an interschool sport with schools in Warwick and Killarney;
- a leadership program to enhance their personal development and their contribution to our school and local community;
- Tours, camps and excursions to connect with learning opportunities outside the school;
